GROW-OUT TEST FOR CULTIVAR
To
determine the genetic purity of a given seed lot of a released cultivar and the
extent to which the submitted sample conforms to the prescribed standards.
The
samples for grow-out test are to be drawn simultaneously with the samples for
other quality tests and the standard procedure shall be followed.
The size of the submitted sample will be as
recommended.
Conduct of Grow
out test
Grow-out-tests
are conducted for foundation classes of variety cotton, hybrid cotton and its
parents, hybrid redgram, hybrid castor, hybrid tomato, hybrid brinjal, hybrid
musk-melon, hybrid true potato seed and hybrid seedless watermelon.
Grow-out-test
will be conducted by Seed Analyst (Genetic purity) adopting the prescribed
procedures and declare the results to the concerned ADSCN.
The
ADSCN will communicate the same to the SCO and to the producer within 24 hours
from the time of receipt.
While raising a test crop, standard and recommended
agronomic/cultural practices i.e., field preparation, size of the plot, row
length, distance between rows/distance between plants, irrigation, fertilizer
application etc., in respect of individual crops are to be followed.
The
minimum population to be studied in 4 replications will be as follows:
Foundation
class: 800 plants
Certified
class:
400 plants
The
seed rate may be adjusted depending on the germination percentage of individual
sample and the sowing may be done by dibbling.
Subsequent thinning is not recommended.
All the plants are to be kept in the field for a sufficient period and studied keeping in view the distinguishing character listed for the cultivar, both in the test crop as well as in the control.
